Green Dan, announces sales of the titled Green Dan Says! ? is Cool? for iPads and iPhones is nothing short of incredible with sales doubling and tripling as months pass. Author , aka Green Dan is dedicated to educating children on renewable energy and energy conservation with the first book being a simple, easy to read, colorful introduction to renewable energy. The Green Dan is perfect for elementary school teachers!

Green Dan?s cartoon character was created to help children ages 8 & up learn about the different types of renewable energy now available and being developed. Dan Marsh said ?I felt the best way to educate kids on renewable energy was to create a fun and easily identifiable character kids could relate to in order to spread the message.? After showing some ideas to his daughter Sarah Marsh in Austin, TX, Green Dan the cartoon character was born! Sarah said, ?Green Dan the cartoon version is simply my dad with green hair and a green beard.? Sarah also commented regarding the fact Green Dan doesn?t have any shoes on was no accident. Sarah?s said, ?He loves going barefooted!?

Dan Marsh, renewable energy advocate, inventor, children?s educator and author practices what he preaches too! Dan?s comments on this was the fact he was shocked on how many people teach solar classes, and run around talking about how great renewable energy technologies are but don?t utilize any of it on their own homes.

Dan is proud of the fact his has a 1kW vertical axis wind turbine, more than 3,800 watts of thin-film PV, (grid-tied w/ battery back up) solar hot water for heating, solar hot water for domestic uses and an experimental ground source heat pump.

A Brief Introduction to Geothermal Energy – Pros and Cons, Yes or No? Find Out!

Published by fnever on March 25th, 2012 - in Knowledge Base

Article by Joe Markson

There tend to be quite a bit of discussion going on regarding energy however it clearly is perhaps the most cost effective alternatives that exists. energy works all year round and it can save lots on your energy bills. It is actually more affordable than plus its absolutely clean and sustainable.

The best part of tends to be that it can be used in all weather conditions. No matter if it’s freezing or sizzling hot outside the constantly works (as opposed to solar panels for example where you actually need the sun’s rays to shine for the solar panels to generate anything at all). Geothermal solutions demand negligible upkeep and they’re made to function for a long time. They could be scaled to suit one’s circumstances. This can be a perfect solution for either residential or industrial use.

But just what is geothermal energy anyway?

The term “geothermal” is of Greek origin, meaning “warmth out of the ground”. We generally differentiate 2 types of geothermal energy. The first is geothermal heat which is generated from the magma of the earth, thanks to atomic reactions. In the center of our planet conditions are so incredibly hot (~7200 °F or ~4000 °C) that rock will become liquefied which then slowly moves towards the surface of the earth.Typically, the temperature increases about 120 °F (~50 °C) with each mile (~1.6 km) towards the middle of the earth. The other kind of geothermal heat actually comes from sunlight. The sun heats up the first few meters of the surface of our Earth and this may also be harnessed.

So what’s in it for me?

Geothermal energy is normally used for warming or cooling. It can generate warmth during wintertime and cooling can be done with it during summer. It can also help to meet hot needs of a household. Of course there are pros and cons of geothermal energy, but the advantages usually outweigh the disadvantages.

Final thoughts

There is much more talk about climate change and the search for alternative energy has never been such a hot topic as nowadays. With geothermal heat pump systems getting more inexpensive, more efficient, and a lot more reliable geothermal energy is amongst the most talked about green solutions around. Despite the fact that installing a geothermal heat pump system is typically more pricey than a regular system, the original investment will probably pay off in a couple of years time.

Solar Energy Options That You Can Install in Your Home – Go Green With Solar Energy!

Published by fnever on March 22nd, 2012 - in Knowledge Base

As you may know, the energy resources in this world are slowly depleting. We must start using energy that is abundant and available on a day to day basis. is a great resource; it is cheap and it helps the environment. However, most people believe that installing a solution in their homes will be too costly; this is not the case at all. As a result, they decide to stick with their regular electricity. If you install a in your you will not only be able to cut down on your , but you will also be saving the environment from pollution.

The following article will discuss the different types of solar energy options that you can install in your home.

Solar home lighting: This system takes in solar energy and converts it to electricity to power your home. The solar panels contain cells which charge with energy when exposed to sunlight.

These cells stay charges, saving energy, so at night time you will still be able to light your house. If you install this system in your home, will be a thing of the past.

: If you install a in your household, you will save a fortune on heating bills in the winter. Yes you will have a cool high-tech gadget in your house, but that is not a bad thing. It may be an expensive cost initially, but after three or four years you will not be paying anything for heating. How can you beat that?

You can save money by making your own energy at home. It is cheaper and easier then you may have thought.

SHAPE Task Force Calls for Changing National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) to National Atherosclerosis Education Program

Published by fnever on March 20th, 2012 - in Knowledge Base

Houston, () March 17, 2012

When the NIH launched in 1985, the focus was on the detection and treatment of high cholesterol, largely in isolation from other cardiovascular risk factors. Since then, numerous discoveries and new research in the field of cardiovascular risk prediction have enabled earlier detection of risk and the identification of those who stand to benefit most from cholesterol-lowering therapies.

One of the most important developments is the use of noninvasive imaging to diagnose atherosclerosis in its pre-symptomatic stage. While detection and treatment of traditional risk factors such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure are important, it is now clear that the direct measurement of atherosclerosis, which enables personalized risk assessment, is useful in identifying high risk individuals and improves risk classification.

In fact, in the 9 years since the NIH released NCEP-III Guidelines which introduced ?Global Risk Assessment?, subclinical atherosclerosis has gained increased recognition as a more powerful predictor than all risk factor combinations and risk factor-based scoring systems. The burden of atherosclerotic plaques predicts adverse events much more accurately than risk factors, particularly near-term events.

Consequently, in 2009, the Appropriate Use Criteria considered coronary artery calcium scans (CAC) ?appropriate? for asymptomatic patients with an ?Intermediate? global risk estimate, as well as those deemed lower risk with a family history of premature coronary heart disease. In 2010, the ACC/AHA Guideline for Assessment of Cardiovascular Risk in Asymptomatic Adults followed suit, elevating CAC and carotid plaque and intima-media thickness (CIMT) to Class IIa recommendations for cardiovascular risk assessment in asymptomatic adults at intermediate (10% to 20% 10-year) risk.

As we await the NCEP IV Guidelines, the SHAPE Task Force anticipates that the discoveries of the past decade will be in the NCEP Adult Treatment Panel (ATP) IV, and that the NIH will assign a major role to detection of subclinical atherosclerosis to improve risk prediction for primary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The Guidelines should no longer favor intensive treatment of cholesterol independent of atherosclerosis, but instead must target those individuals with the highest burden of atherosclerotic CVD risk who are expected to benefit the most from aggressive cholesterol-lowering therapies. The heightened awareness of possible statin induced hyperglycemia (diabetes mellitus) and rare cognitive dysfunction reinforces the need for more accurate risk assessment to insure that widespread drug therapy is appropriately implemented.

The SHAPE Task Force therefore suggests changing the name of the to the . This change will appropriately shift the focus from a single risk factor of atherosclerosis (cholesterol) to atherosclerosis itself, and can help save the lives of many High Risk individuals, who are currently misclassified as Low or Intermediate Risk.

SHAPE is continuing its scientific quest for innovative approaches to heart attack prevention, and ultimately, eradication. About the Society for Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication (SHAPE):

The mission of SHAPE ( http://www.shapesociety.org ) is to eradicate heart attack by championing new strategies for prevention while advancing the scientific quest for a cure. The focus of SHAPE is on the asymptomatic ?vulnerable patients? who are unaware of their hidden cardiovascular risk. SHAPE believes the quo leaves the Vulnerable Patient unprotected hence it is unacceptable and must change. In addition to the detection of risk factors of atherosclerosis, healthcare professionals must pay attention to atherosclerosis itself. Individuals without alarming risk factors but with hidden plaque (asymptomatic atherosclerosis) must be treated and alerted to their high risk. Through educational programs presented to both medical professionals and the community, SHAPE raises awareness of the primary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The vision of SHAPE is a world free from heart attack.

Beware Solar Energy By 2012

Published by fnever on March 18th, 2012 - in Knowledge Base

Beware By 2012

I don’t know about 2012, I have seen the movie, I have read the books, were supposed to get a radiation or electromagnet super wave from the sun that winters year, it makes for entertainment I guess, but more important is collecting the energy the sun is putting out right as I write this, and has for millions of years.

It sits in the skies every day staring down at us with more power and energy than even the smartest man on earth or working for Nasa can figure out. We have figured out how to harness this energy, yet every day, every winter we struggle with drilling oil, dealing with foreign countries about the prices their gouging us on the fossil fuel that is pumped out their land, this all so un-necessary.

One of the problems is we keep waiting for the corporations and governments to get the ball rolling, we know how slow governments can be and corporations are quite happy with the quo, the oil companies and the countries their dealing are making a fortune on are hard earned money. So the change that needs to happen has to be from the home owners, and it should start happening in this country now, it is happening in other countries right now, were unfortunately on the tail end of a very important movement.

Countries like Australia, New Zealand and such are ahead of American in the energy conversion movement. Japan is also ahead of the U.S., the American people are used to being pioneers in technological movements and it does not make sense for to be lagging behind so many countries, granted were still a great country but were not the head makers of old, and our economy, the employment environment here is hurting, all you have to do for proof is read the papers or watch TV.

Success is aware of this dilemma and is in the process of educating and getting out the story via the internet to as many people as we can. Many people still don’t even question the status of were we stand in the energy , and that’s what were in, a to convert from fossil fuel to new sources of energy, our current energy source is so tied up in oil, and the supply of oil is dwindling at an alarming rate, 20 years from now this country could be in big trouble! We need to act now; we need mass conversions taking place starting today if were going to make even second place.

Nobody knows what’s going to happen in 2012, but we do know we’ll be much farther behind in the energy race if we don’t start converting from our old energy source to a more economic and infinite source. The sun seems like the most sensible answer, scientists are looking into wind farms, and hydrogen converters but they have not been developed to the point of mass deployment.

Solar energy systems are here now and ready, solar panels have been around awhile now, so have Photovoltaic systems, these systems have been proven and countries and companies are deploying them right now, they have been adapted for home conversions and are affordable. So what are we waiting for, and that’s were comes in, we have the resources and contacts to connect home owners with the right equipment and contractors best suited for the work, we have screened these contractors, we have done the research for you and have compiled a list of the best vendors and qualified contractors. Bobby Sherman Announces “Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children’s Foundation”

Published by fnever on March 8th, 2012 - in Knowledge Base

Los Angeles, California () March 05, 2012

The Brigitte & Children?s Foundation, an international humanitarian and development organization dedicated to caring for children orphaned by AIDS, civil warfare, disease or other tragedy in developing countries around the world, will soon begin construction of a musical village in Ada, Ghana. The musical village will incorporate a school and medical clinic that will allow orphaned children to live in the village, grow their own food and sell surplus food to neighboring villages. All proceeds will go directly back into the BBSCF musical village, where the children will receive a classical education that includes a focus on African drumming, dancing, art, and tribal history.

Beginning in 2006, and Bobby Sherman sponsored a daily musical workshop that teaches children the art of drum , singing and tribal dance located in the poorest neighborhood in Accra, the capital of Ghana. That assistance eventually progressed into a desire to provide a shelter for these orphans and street children where they could fully have the benefit of art, music, education and health. Today the program includes a daily feeding and tutoring program for street children in Accra and Ada. In 2011, the Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children?s Foundation was officially formed and plans to assemble the village were set in motion.

To realize the extraordinary vision, last year the Foundation committed to and succeeded in acquiring 5 acres of land in Ada, a rural village some 3 hours drive from the capital. The Foundations COO/CFO Kerry David and CEO Josh Roenitz, met with local chiefs to purchase the land and procure the support of the tribe to commence with the musical village. Two local Chiefs, Nene Tsatsu Pediator and Nene Ahaviatse, even performed a libation ceremony, a centuries old tradition to bring good fortune and peace to the land and its inhabitants, upon completion of the sale.

?Over the past six years Bobby and I have watched this dream of ours come to life through the efforts of people worldwide. The progress that has already been made and continues everyday is encouraging beyond belief,? said Brigitte Poublon, co-founder of The Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children?s Foundation.

Additionally, over the past year BBSCF has opened an office in the USAID building in Accra, made it possible for over 2000 students across the U.S. at 7 schools to participate in drumming and Africa awareness programming, and provided orphans and street children in Ghana with mosquito nets to prevent malaria; toothbrushes along with dental hygiene instruction; shoes and clothing; and over 4000 meals as part of the daily feeding program. BBSCF has also covered fees to allow students in Ghana to take their final exams for High School.

Last month it was announced that GreenHouse Holdings, was selected to provide project development and program management for the musical village. GreenHouse Holdings, will help ensure that the village will be completely self-sustaining within 5 years and that power for the 5-acre facility will be generated from renewable resources using solar and wind. “We are honored to be a part of this project,” said Russ Earnshaw, President of GreenHouse Holdings, “Providing sustainable housing and energy solutions in austere regions has always been a focus of our company and we can’t think of a more worthy cause than supporting the Foundation’s goal to improve the lives of these amazing kids.”

Additionally, Perkins+Will has agreed to provide pro bono design expertise for the musical village. “The architectural firm Perkins+Will is honored to donate design services to support the development of the BBSCF Musical Village in Ada, Ghana,? said Perkins+Will Social Responsibility Initiative leader Kelly Schnell. ?The project’s visionary goals align with the firm’s commitment to social responsibility, as Perkins+Will understands the power of the built environment to address pressing social needs. The donation of professional services will be provided by the international firm’s Seattle office.”

BBSCF is also pleased to announce that they have established partnerships with The Bobby Sherman EMT Foundation (BSEMT) and The Continuum Center for Health and Healing, an initiative of Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.
