Aquatherm Industries, Inc. of Lakewood, NJ announced today it has increased energy efficiency of its solar pool heater collector manufacturing by 18%. Through improved processes developed over 35 years of solar manufacturing experience, the manufacturer has been able to reduce the amount of energy required to produce its efficient solar pool heating systems.
Dave Sizelove, President and Co-Founder of Aquatherm Industries, cites these efficiency improvements as a direct result of improved manufacturing processes and quality control. “Through the years, Aquatherm has remained committed to solar pool heating, while other manufacturers have diversified into other solar technologies such as hot water and photovoltaic,” says Sizelove.
“Our commitment to solar pool heating has resulted in a laser focus, and has allowed us to innovate and improve on the technology time and time again.”
Sizelove also credits the manufacturer’s 2011 registration as an ISO 9001:2008 company for improving quality control inside the walls of its 50,000 square foot facility. ISO 9001:2008 is a quality management system developed by the International Organization of Standardization requires a manufacturer demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
“Aquatherm has always been dedicated to making a quality product. Through the process of becoming ISO-registered, we pursued even greater levels of quality control – from the minute raw materials enter the building to the shipment of finished product. This, in turn, resulted in the creation of less waste in our facility, which helped to increase our process efficiencies.”
Aquatherm was recognized earlier this year for its eco-friendly efforts by the New Jersey Department of Department of Environmental Protection Environmental Stewardship Initiative, which it hopes to parlay into an ISO 14001 certification.
“Being a polymer product and therefore derived from oil,” says Sizelove, “the process by which we manufacture our product is already inherently energy efficient compared to the alternative. If you were to take three gallons of oil and refine and burn it using a conventional fossil-fuel pool heater, that three gallons would provide about 400,000 British thermal units (BTUs) one time only. By using that same three gallons to manufacture one 4′ x 12′ solar pool heating collector, you are creating a product that will produce over 10,000,000 BTUs a year, and keeps producing year after year.”
